Conscientization program

MOSQUITO BITES COULD BE FATAL
INTRODUCTION
Conscientisation is a process of developing a critical awareness of one’s social reality through reflection and action. This concept was developed by Brazilian pedagogue and educational theorist Paulo Freire. It conveys the idea of developing, strengthening and changing consciousness. It was created in the field of education, specifically of adult education. For this awareness program I opted to take the topic “Mosquito bites could be Fatal”. The method which I have selected to present this topic is seminar method. This educational program is very relevant for the present scenario. Today knowingly or unknowingly every human being undergo mosquito bite. Mosquitos may be small and have short lifespans, but they can wreak havoc on human lives. Many people get bitten by mosquitos each year, but bites can affect people differently.  From their itchy bites to the diseases they can carry, mosquitos are often annoying and sometimes downright deadly. Mosquitos are perhaps the most dangerous animals in the world. They can be more than annoying and itchy, they can really make you sick. They are the carriers for major human diseases such as yellow fever, malaria and dengue fever.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
When it comes to mosquito bites, prevention is better than cure: pupil must have a knowledge that mosquitos are known carriers of several viruses.
This topic is one of the most important topic to be discusses in all school levels because children are active and they do not stay put on a single place.
Students must be aware of the harmful infections carried and transmitted by mosquito bites.
It is necessary that everyone must know that mosquito bite is not only just an itch, but they could lead to something much worse.
This awareness program creates an awareness about the mosquito bites and its havoc on human lives.
The participants will be aware about the symptoms of disease and the preventive measures for mosquito bite.
The result of this awareness program will be of great benefit for the students and the society.
OBJECTIVES
To make the students aware that small mosquitos can wreak havoc on human lives.
To make the students understand that mosquitos are known carriers of several viruses.
To create an awareness about the ways to prevent mosquito bite.
To make aware that some diseases can’t be spread through mosquito bite.
To make the students aware about the treatments available for mosquito bites.
To make the students capable of explaining these facts to the society.
REPORT
A wealth of knowledge can be easily delivered by a seminar method. I choose seminar method to present this program because it is a great way for those who prefer listening rather than reading. The target group selected for this awareness program was secondary school students with the consideration that they can do something to prevent mosquitos and its bite.
As planned earlier, the time schedule for this awareness program is 30 minutes. At first I greet and welcomes the students. Then I ask the participants of the awareness program about the mosquitos. They respond with so many information and ideas. Then I delivered an introduction about mosquitos and its dangerous bite.
The introductory part given by me as follows;
There are 3500 species of mosquitos in the world. Mosquitos live in grass and bushes located close to areas where humans live. Their favorite breeding ground is standing water. They gather in neglected birdbaths, clogged rain gutters, storm drains, pools, ponds, and other bodies of water that aren’t flowing. Male mosquitos don’t bite humans, but females do. While both of them feed on plant nectar and water, females also need blood in their diet to reproduce. Female mosquitos have long, tubular mouthparts that allow them to pierce your skin and feed on your blood. They use the protein and iron found in blood to make their eggs. Once she had her fill of blood, she will rest for a couple of days before laying her eggs. If a mosquito can find enough blood from victims, it can live as long as three weeks. The females lay eggs about every three days during that time, it may lay egg up to five clusters of more than 100 eggs.
Then I have explained about the swelling and the diseases spread because of mosquito bite, when they bite you, they inject saliva into your body while siphoning your blood. Their saliva contains proteins that most people are allergic to. Mosquitos are known carriers of malaria, West Nile virus, dengue fever, yellow fever, Chikungunya. Not all the diseases are spread by mosquito bite, for example AIDS causing HIV virus will not be transmitted by mosquito bite.
It is an awareness program so knowing the symptoms of diseases and the preventive measures are important. So I have given some ideas about symptoms of these diseases and how to prevent mosquito bite? A chart has been shown to the participants.
REFLECTION
The student response was very impressive and interesting in this awareness class. They come up with lots of innovative ideas to prevent mosquitos. They suggest that,
We must keep our surroundings clean
Remove any form of unnecessary stable water
To avoid mosquito bite we can use lotions, mosquito repellents
They were very happy because they gathered so many new ideas about prevention of mosquitos and also they said before this awareness class, they thought all mosquitos bite. But it was a n surprise for the that only female mosquito bite.
I am satisfied by conducting such a nice conscentisation program for the secondary school students of the grade ..…... I am sure that this topic is one of the most important topic to be discussed in all school levels and make the students aware about this issue and it is necessary in the present scenario. Like this often awareness programs can be conducted for the parent community. We can conduct exhibitions, documentary presentation, drama shows to express and create an aware society about mosquitos and its dangerous bite. I have collected maximum data from many sources and conducted a good awareness class. And I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to my teachers, friends, well-wishers and the loving students for the support and guidance for making the program a successful one.

5th week reflection

The fifth week has started with the second observation of our option teacher Mr.Shinas. He has observed my Magnetic field and magnetic flux topic for standard 8. His feedback boosted me up. On Tuesday the 5th December I took a class on the topic Magnetic induction for standard 8, the next day I have taken Electro chemical change for the same standard. On 7th of December I taught Electro plating for standard 8. The students were enthusiastic to learn these concepts. On 8th December 2017 I taught Photo chemical reaction for standard 8, and I have conducted a conscientization program on the topic Mosquito bite could be fatal for standard 8D. This week also I did some peer observations. I have got some substitution periods also.

4th week reflection

In my fourth week of teaching on 27-11-2017 Monday I teach Reaction of metals with water and air for standard 8D and oxygen topic for standard 9D. This week in order to standardize our teaching process I did some peer observations on my co-trainees.  Tuesday 28th I teach electrical conductivity for standard 8 and Ozone topic for standard 9. On Wednesday the 29th I went to standard 8 to teach Earth as a magnet. Today our Philosophy sir Mr.Saji has come to observe my class. He has given some positive feedbacks. The next day I taught Natural and artificial magnets for standard 8. With these memorable activities a successful and energetic week has come to an end.
